Michael’s Journey – 48kg Down & A Life Reclaimed with The Man Shake
Share
Hi everyone, I’m Michael—and I’ve lost 48kg with The Man Shake.
I’m incredibly grateful to share my story here and proud to shout the benefits of The Man Shake to anyone who’ll listen. It hasn’t just helped me lose weight—it’s helped me get my life back.
“My wife and two boys didn’t deserve this.”
I spent years lying to myself and my family. I kept promising I’d do something about my weight, but never followed through. I avoided social events because nothing fit, and at 129kg and wearing 4XL, I’d rather stay home than face the discomfort and shame.
Then came a wake-up call: blood test results from my GP. I was a 42-year-old man on a fast track to diabetes—or worse. My body hurt. I was exhausted. I was heading toward an early grave.
That was my turning point. My wife and kids deserved better—and so did I.
Starting Small, Starting Smart
I couldn’t just start running around the block. My joints ached, and I had zero energy. So I started with what I could control: my diet.
Out went alcohol, sugary coffee, and junk food. I wasn’t someone who could do moderation—if I could, I wouldn’t have gotten this far off track.
Breakfast became a Man Shake—usually the Coffee flavour, with cold water, ice, and a scoop of Choc Super Greens. Morning tea was a Man Bar or fruit. Lunch? Another shake—Caramel was my go-to. Afternoon snacks included yogurt or hummus and carrot sticks. Dinner was lean protein and veggies. Crispy-skin salmon? Big yes.
“With the bad gone, the good could flourish.”
I didn’t need caffeine anymore—the coffee-flavoured Man Shake tricked my brain just enough. It worked perfectly with my shift work, and before long, I was feeling full, satisfied, and in control.
Six weeks in, I’d lost 10kg. I added more walking, took the stairs, rode my bike to work, and even swapped school pick-up drives for walks with the kids. Little choices turned into big wins.
The money I saved from not drinking? I spent it on better clothes and a new bike—fuel for the fire.
The Real Rewards: My Mind, My Confidence, My Life
As I lost the weight, it was like a fog lifted. I felt sharper, more positive, and more present. My confidence soared. I started stepping outside my comfort zone—joining social futsal and tennis leagues, saying yes to life again.
My kids noticed the energy shift too. We play together now. They don’t just see me sitting on the sidelines—they see me in the game.
Staying On Track
When motivation dips, I look back at the spreadsheet I’ve been tracking or photos of the “old me.” It’s a powerful reminder of how far I’ve come—and why I’ll never go back.
With help from the Man Shakers community and recipes on The Man Shake site, I’ve learned how to properly fuel my body and understand what true portion control looks like. I still have a Man Shake every morning—it’s now part of my lifestyle.
Oh, and carrots—I eat a lot of carrots these days. And Acai bowls? Never thought I’d be into those, but now I love them (and they’re easy to make at home).
“If I can do it, anyone can.”
I've lost 48kg, and I’m not done yet. But I’m no longer hiding from life—I'm living it. I’ve regained my confidence, my health, and my happiness. I've completed challenges I thought were impossible my most recent being my hometown Ironman 70.3
If you’re thinking about starting, my advice is simple: just do it. You won’t regret it. The Man Shake works. It tastes great. And it can change your life—just like it did mine.
Shake on.
