5 Great Meal Prep Dishes For Winter

In this day and age, it’s not easy to find the time to prepare fresh and nutritious meals each and every day.

That’s where meal prep comes in. Meal prep is making meals in advance to eat later on and can often take effort out of losing weight — just like The Man Shake!

We’ve already compiled a handy beginners guide on how to meal prep, but we thought we’d round up a few of our favourite recipes that are ideal for batch cooking to get you through the week.

Spaghetti Bolognese

Our healthier Spaghetti Bolognese sauce is chock-full of lean protein and vegetables. It’s easy to cook in a batch and can be kept in the fridge for four days post-cooking or stored in the freezer for up to three months. Likewise, you can freeze cooked pasta, but we prefer to have ours fresh and thus only recommend freezing the sauce and cooking a new batch of pasta each time you reheat your bolognese.

Borscht Soup

With winter just around the corner, soup season is almost upon us. With that in mind, we recommend making this delicious Borscht Soup, which contains beetroots, mushrooms, cabbage, celery, diced beef and much more. This hearty dish is best kept in the fridge for up to two days post-cooking or can be frozen for about two months.

Healthy Mac and Cheese

Who doesn’t like Mac and Cheese? A much-loved comfort food across the world, it can be quite an unhealthy dish — unless, of course, you use the Man Shake’s recipe. Our version is packed with nutritious vegetables like pumpkin and broccoli and incorporates low-fat cream cheese. This dish is an ideal side to a piece of grilled chicken or steak and can be frozen for up to three months!

Simple Chicken Curry

Another great meal for the colder months. This simple curry uses a series of delectable spices to create a hearty dish that everyone in your family will love. That said, we don’t necessarily recommend freezing the saffron rice that accompanies it. Like pasta, while rice is freezable, it tastes a lot better when fresh, so cook a new batch when you reheat your curry. Incidentally, the curry shouldn't be frozen for more than three months. Likewise, it should only be kept in the fridge for three to four days post-cooking.

Cheesy Tuna Rice

Containing tuna, corn, basmati rice and reduced-fat ricotta cheese, this Cheesy Tuna Rice is full of protein, slow-release carbs and omega-3s and is perfect for blokes looking to shed their beer gut. Additionally, not only is it simple to cook, but it will also stay good for about one month in the freezer, making it an ideal choice for meal prep.
