How To Simplify Your Weight Loss Journey

Losing weight can be incredibly confusing. All the information that we consume can make things way more complicated than they need to be.

Ultimately we want the process to be easy and the end goal to become clearer.

With that in mind, here are five tips to help you simplify your weight loss journey.

Often when we start a diet or set out to lose weight we decide to cut out certain foods or food groups entirely from our diet. When in reality, the opposite should be done.

All food groups belong in a healthy weight loss plan. Don't cut out a particular food altogether in hopes to shed the kilos faster.

The problem with extreme diets is that they are not sustainable over a long period of time. Even worse, if you do have success with them and lose the weight and then decide to go back to normal eating, the weight can very easily pile back on.

Instead of restricting yourself to a crazy diet and a hectic fitness schedule, make small changes that you know you will be able to stick with over time. For example, add more vegetables to your meals one week at a time, or begin walking daily before you're ready to run.

A common phrase when trying to lose weight is "if I eat that I need to make sure I burn it off later."

Having this mindset creates an unhealthy relationship with food, and can be detrimental to your weight loss.

Focus on eating healthy for at least 80% of the week, meaning you have given yourself room to enjoy the foods you love without having to 'run it off'.

You don't need to read every single ingredient and nutrition label on every product at the shops!

Have a list of what items you want to buy before heading to the shops, and when you are there try and shop around the edges of the store, as this is where you will find fresh produce, lean meat, dairy, nuts and frozen whole foods - all the good stuff!

There is no need to stress every time you eat outside of the home. You should be rewarding yourself with one of your favourite meals - whether that is a restaurant dinner or a takeaway feed - once a week!

If you know that you are heading out for dinner on a Saturday night, ensure you are eating well in the lead up to and the day after the meal. This will keep you on track with your healthy lifestyle, whilst still ensuring you have a healthy relationship with food!
