How To Exercise While Travelling

While holidays are a time to relax, when you’re on a weight loss journey, you’ll probably want to continue using your free time to ditch the spare tyre around your waist. Exercising while travelling — for work or pleasure — can be daunting, but if you follow the tips we’re about to share, you should continue to hit your goals while away from home.

Manage Your Expectations

Look, it’s difficult to exercise while on holiday as it’s a break from your routine. Of course, you should continue to exercise, but you also realise that you may not always have the time or the access to facilities. Ten minutes of exercise is better than none, so don’t beat yourself up if you don’t manage to execute a full routine. 

Walk Or Jog While Seeing The Sights

One of the best things about travelling is exploring new locations. Why not combine this with some cardio by walking or jogging around the city you are visiting? Who doesn’t dream about having a quick run between the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe?

Try Out Active Activities

Another way to integrate exercise into your travels is to try some physically active activities. If you’re by the beach, try surfing, paddle boarding or snorkelling. If you’re on a bush retreat, go for a hike. If you’re in a bustling city, seek out clubs or facilities that may be offering sporty activities. 

Use the Hotel Gym

Yeah, this is an obvious one, but we’ll include it. These days, many hotels, motels and serviced apartments offer a communal gym for guests. If your accommodation has an exercise facility on offer, use it. The hotel gym is a really great resource if you're someone who travels a lot for work too.

Use Resistance Bands

Light, versatile and easy to pack, resistance bands are perfect for blokes who want to keep their fitness regime going while travelling. There are many varied exercises you can do with a resistance band including front squats, standing abductions, and standing bicep curls. A resistance band can pretty much provide a full-body workout. If you’ve forgotten to pack a resistance band, as we revealed in this blog, you can use a hand towel as a substitute. 

Use Fitness Apps

So, your hotel doesn’t have a gym. No worries, whip your phone out and try some guided exercises on YouTube, Apple Fitness Plus, Nike Training Club or Peloton. The awesome thing about many of these exercise apps is that you can use them almost anywhere, anytime. 

Use Day Passes and Classes

Another option for travellers staying in gym-free accommodation is to drop into a nearby facility that offers one, two or three-day passes. These passes offer users a limited window during which they can use the gym facilities and are ideal for people taking a short break.
