Awesome Running Apps For Beginners

Are you looking to get into running?

Great! It’s an amazing and effective way to get fit and lose your beer belly. That said, it’s not necessarily the easiest hobby to get into.

However, we have searched the internet to find a series of running apps that will not only motivate you but also enable you to keep a record of your progress.

Let's get off and running, shall we?

Strava

This popular running app tracks your pace, distance and time during each run and allows you to log your results. One of the best features of Strava is that it has a social media component so you can share your workouts with your friends and congratulate each other for your efforts. Additionally, Strava is compatible with most smartphones and GPS watches and can be synchronised across multiple devices. Strava is free, but a paid version that provides training plans is available.

Nike Run Club

Like Strava, Nike Run Club is free and able to track your pace, elevation and distance, but it also has a gamification aspect to it. There are challenges that you can do with friends and you can even pair it with your Spotify to help devise your ultimate running playlist. Another great feature of the Nike Run Club is the inclusion of audio coaching, which could be very useful for people starting. There’s even a mindful run feature.

Map My Run

The unique feature of this free app is that it allows you to specify exactly the type of run you are on. Whether you're inside on the treadmill or outside on a nature trail, Map My Run has you covered. It also has a series of different routes available to people who may want to avoid more crowded places. Additionally, users can create custom routes and share them with others.

Apple Fitness Plus

This is a paid service but may suit people who are glued to their iPhones due to its easy compatibility. Not only does this include all the features expected of a running app, but it also has a series of different guided exercise classes included. From treadmill running to yoga to Pilates, core exercises and more. The classes are regularly updated and suit people of any athletic ability.

Zombies, Run!

This one is a bit of a wild card, but it's cool, so we thought we’d include it. To add a bit more imagination and desperation to your exercise regime, this app uses a series of audio-visual effects to simulate a zombie apocalypse. During your ‘missions’, you will be required to run so as to collect supplies and fortify your base as the ‘zombies approach'. Sounds like a hoot and a holler to us.
