We are constantly fed so much information about what is good for us that it is hard to know who to believe.

We think we are on the right track towards our goal by establishing healthy routines and habits to follow. However, a lot of these perceived 'healthy' habits are anything but!

In fact, a lot of them will not only stall your weight loss, but could even be the reason you're adding on the weight as opposed to losing it.

We've compiled six 'healthy' habits that are hurting your weight loss journey.

Sticking To The Same Exercise

While any type of exercise is better than none at all, not changing up your exercises or workout routines will make it harder for you to lose weight efficiently.

When you do the same exercise time and time again, your body becomes used to it which will lead to you burning less calories even though you are doing the same amount of exercise.

A good guideline is to change up your exercises once every three months.

Skipping Sleep For A Morning Workout

Research has shown that those on a diet who sleep for less than five hours a night put on two and a half times more belly fat then those who are getting the recommended six to eight hours a night.

Whilst exercising in the morning is a brilliant way to start your day on a healthy note and boost your energy, don't miss out on the necessary hours of sleep you need to power your day, and your weight loss!

Skipping Meals

It may make sense on the surface to skip meals as you would be eating fewer calories. However, skipping meals may be the cause of your gut expansion!

Skipping meals slows down your metabolism and makes you hungrier, meaning you will over-eat at your next meal. The best way to keep your metabolism steady and the calories off is to snack on small, protein-filled foods every three hours and eat consistently throughout the day.

You Went Dairy-Free

The reason that dairy is important in our diets is because of the role calcium plays in our metabolism. Calcium ultimately helps our bodies burn calories as opposed to taking them on as excess fat.

Milk, Greek yoghurt and cottage cheese are examples of dairy foods that will help you lose weight!

Over-Eating on Healthy Foods

Just because you have a plate full of healthy foods doesn't mean that you can eat as much as you want! Whilst foods like avocado, oatmeal, and chicken are great foods to stimulate your weight loss, you will still be packing in extra calories if you don't practice portion control.

You Over-Sleep

As we said, skipping sleep is associated with gaining weight, but those who sleep for longer than the recommended six to eight hours a night are just as likely to gain weight! Not only this, but the belly weight you will gain from over-sleeping is linked to diabetes, strokes, and heart disease.
